A lot of people, have asked what do ya’ll do on a day-to-day basis?

Well, finally now that are back from traveling and have a schedule and routine set up we’re getting pretty busy.

Crystal’s scoping (proofing legal depositions) from home, and is getting really busy with that, and Tyler has been planting a church full-time.  He’s been looking for venues, getting our legal paperwork set up, meeting people and networking.  He has a ‘mobile office’, and spends a lot of time at Starbucks looking to talk to whomever he can start a conversation with about StoryHeights.  The boys just play all day.  They’re great at entertaining themselves.  We’re looking forward to this summer to get them in some VBS’s and maybe a day camp or two.

We’ve been so blessed to meet a family here that has 3 little boys Whitaker & Campbell’s age, and they are their new best buddies!  We spent last weekend with them, and are going to Maine with them for Easter.

Things are still pretty laid back around here, and we’re enjoying everyday in our little condo in Watertown!

Hello Friends/Family,

Hope you all are well!  Wanted to send you a quick update from Boston so that you will be able to continue joining us in prayer for the launch of the greatest church New England has ever known!!

We had a fantastic time in Baton Rouge at the ARC All Access Conference, and an even better time visiting with friends and family that we didn’t really have a chance to say proper goodbyes to when we moved in March.  I also had the opportunity to preach at my parents small group the Wednesday before we left.  It was so great to be able to tell our story to a small group of committed believers.  I love God’s track record for what He can do with groups like thaThis past Monday, I was able to go witness some of the finish line festivities of the Boston Marathon.  I was only there for an hour or so and I left feeling like I was in the best shape of my life! Haha!  It was such a wonderful event to see, but I also think that God gave me a small snap shot of what StoryHeights Church is going to look like.   As I stood there, I saw the streets and grand stands filled with people from across the globe cheering on people they didn’t even know, and, perhaps, didn’t even speak the same language as they approached the finish line of what could be for some the greatest accomplishment of their lives.

God spoke to my heart in the weird little way that He does and said, “Tyler, this is what StoryHeights is going to look like.”  He said, “You are going to create an environment where the lost will be cheered for and celebrated as they come in for the ‘big finish’! Only difference will be that they are finishing at the beginning of what will be the greatest race they’ve ever run!”

I get so excited and emotional thinking about it that I’m actually hitting the keys on this computer harder and faster with every sentence and trying not to break down crying in this Starbucks I’m working in today!

God continues to provide random connections with strangers.  I love the feeling I get right after God tells me to do something crazy, and right before I actually do it!  For example, I was emailing back and forth with a lady about a potential venue for the church.  She ended all her emails with “Cheers, Mollie”.  I thought that was so great, and I felt like God said, “Tell her what you think about her salutations.”  So I did.  I wrote her back and said something like, “By the way, I think it’s so great that you end your emails with ‘cheers’.  It’s so much better than the normal ‘thanks’ or ‘sincerely’.”

It’s so silly, but my heart was beating so fast when I was typing those words, and I was doubting myself the whole time thinking “this is silly” and “people don’t do stuff like this here”.  So after a few minutes of debating this in my head, I sent the email.  Shortly after, she responded that those words had “made her day” and she was looking forward to meeting me!  Can I tell you how much easier it is walking into a venue where they don’t do weekly rentals when the decision-maker already likes you!  I saw the place today, and she has given us the initial green light to enter into negotiations and see if it would work for us.  God is so good!

We are praying now for the favor of God that we are going to need to accomplish this task.  Favor with the perfect venue, favor with the people here, and favor with God as He continues to provide EXCEEDINGLY AND ABUNDANTLY MORE THAN WE COULD EVER ASK, THINK OR IMAGINE!  We are also praying for wisdom as we make plans and prepare for our first day of outreaches to the city on May 7th.  Please continue to pray for us as I know you have been.

Thank you for joining us in this incredible story that God is scripting here in Boston.  It is truly a humbling reminder of the faithfulness of God to have many of you supporting us on this adventure.

I know that in our own strength we could work hard and build a good church, and if our objective was to have a good church here in Boston and be helpful to people here then that would be just fine.  However, our objective is much different.  We don’t want to pastor a good church here.  We want to be apart of the greatest move of God that Boston and all of New England has ever seen for the glory of God! 

The means to that end, then, have to be balanced.  They must be as Spirit-led as they are strategic.  With that in mind we’re asking for your help…

Would you join us for the next 40 days in a strategic and Spirit-led season of prayer and fasting leading up to the first community outreach of StoryHeights to the city of Boston?  We firmly believe that if we’re going to win this city for Christ, we’ve got to win the spiritual battle first.  This is our objective during the next 40 days.

It’s your story.  Take it higher.

We went to our 3rd and final assessment with ARC this past Monday and Tuesday, and will know something soon about their involvement with our church plant.  They’ve been an invaluable resource for us thus far.

So as of right now, we are just doing a few little things (ie setting up a PO BOX, mailing in our articles of incorporation, opening up bank accounts, switching over our phone numbers, getting a church phone number, setting up cable/internet, etc.) and settling into the neighborhood.

We will begin a  time of prayer and fasting over the next couple of weeks leading into the ALL ACCESS Conference the first week of April at HPC, and then when we get back from that we will hit the ground running and begin executing the strategy!

Please continue to stay in prayer for us!

Some have decided to go.  Some are still praying.  Some just want to support through prayer.  Either way there were 16 of us tonight, some were present and some skyped in, regardless we were all fired up about one thing:  telling God’s story in Boston!  We talked about our vision for StoryHeights, our purpose and mission to connect your story to God’s story and let Him take it higher.  We talked about the practical time line that is ahead of us…the money we are believing God for, where to live, and the burden that we carry!

We finished the night praying for one another, and begging God for His wisdom, discernment and provision….and for boldness…and for power…and for…and for…and for…the list goes on and on.

It’s was a God moment…can’t wait until next week.

Also, what a great word Pastor Chris Hodges, Pastor of Church of the Highlands, delivered yesterday about why weekend services are the greatest evangelistic tool we possess.  Studies show that more people give their lives to Christ in a service than in any other format.  Therefore, we must tailor our services to the one person who is lost.  In Luke 15, we see Jesus give three parables back-to-back about the lost coin, lost son, and lost sheep.  He says, we see Jesus say, “In the same way, heaven will be happier over one lost sinner who returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven’t strayed away!” [Luke 15:7] Jesus is distracted by the lost, and if you’re not seeking the lost you’re in His way.  God appreciates the fact that we want to go “deeper” in Him, but we must never forget that the reason the local church exists is to be the hands and feet of Jesus, and to go after those who need salvation.  We can disciple and go deeper together in smaller expressions as we minister to one another, but as long as there is a hell, and people went there today, we must be about figuring out new ways every day to proclaim the simple and old message of the Cross!

So here’s to planting a church that makes it inviting and easy for lost people to come home and be found.

Gonna do better about that…boys…5 more minutes!

2. Please be praying that we would find the perfect place to live in Boston that would fit all of our needs. (THIS NEED HAS BEEN MET)

3. Please be praying that we would have the wisdom necessary to adjust to Boston’s culture quickly.

4. Please be praying that the owners of potential venues will have a soft heart and be moved by the Lord to open their building to us.

5. Please be praying that God will bring us people to be apart of the launch team, and that our eyes would be open to these divine connections.

During this phase we are laying all of the ground work for a future established church.  For example, Tyler just filled out about 1,00o forms for taxes, tax id numbers, selecting a board of advisers, deciding on by-laws and other logistical steps.

In a few weeks we will be heading to Birmingham, AL for the 2nd phase of training offered by ARC, and continue to explore partnering with their network to plant this church.
